Holiday binging

I did so much worse on my diet yesterday than I anticipated. There was just so much good food at both places we went to, and my stomach finally revolted against my six-weeks of dieting. I don't feel I binged per se, but I ate WAY more than I wanted to.

I did, however, manage to get the c25k workout in before our whirlwind day yesterday, so yesterday wasn't a complete and utter loss.

Christmas was exceptionally great. I am fortunate to have great families. It was a very difficult year for us financially, and I feel bad we couldn't reciprocate all that was given to us.

Here's the last three days worth of food diaries.

2-egg omelet with ham, jalapenos and cheese

This week's workouts have been hard

I still think I'm recovering from Saturday's 5k. This week has not been fun workout wise. Plus, the office Christmas luncheon was yesterday, and I ate more than I wanted to there, as well.

All around, a pretty shitty week so far. I hope I can make it through Christmas and not suffer any setbacks.

Running late for work, so this is short. Posting the last two days' worth of food diaries.

I did the 5k

I did the 5k, and I did it in under an hour. However, I didn't make my goal of not walking. There was this hill ... it was long and massive. I ended up walking up it.

My family was there, and they made signs. I felt really good afterward. Then we went for my birthday dinner. I wasn't very hungry. Until I ate a chip. Then I was famished. I ate more than I wanted, but it was my birthday.

I was pretty sore an hour or so afterward, however. And was still a little sore today as well. Thankfully, tomorrow's workout is a relatively simple one, so I should ease right back into my routine.

Anyway, here's the food diary from Saturday and Sunday.

Saturday
Breakfast
Smoothie

Lunch
2 PB&J sanwiches
12 oz skim milk

Dinner
Chicken fajitas, with three flour tortillas and about a tablespoon of sour cream
24 tortilla chips with guacamole

Snacks
About 3/4 cups homemade icream (holiday nog ((which is low-fat egg nog) skim milk and cream)
Small piece of german chocolate cake

48 oz of water
16 oz gatorade
about 28 oz of a club special (vodka and sprite, I believe)

Sunday (wasn't very hungry today at all)
14 pieces of egg nog saltwater taffy
3 cups of chicken taco soup

64 oz of water

Today is the day

I'm about two hours away from my very first 5k. Just finished getting my ipod all ready with an hour's worth of songs, capped by "Going the Distance" from the Rocky franchise. I have two goals: 1. Don't walk. 2. Finish in an hour or less. No. 2 is most likely doable, but No. 1 may or may not be. We'll see!

Here's the last two days worth of food diaries, including a completely terrible Friday, which was when we celebrated Christmas with my mom.

Thursday
Lunch
2 PB&J sandwiches
16 oz skim milk

Dinner
2 fried eggs
Two cups of refried beans

64 oz of water throughout the day

Friday
Lunch-ish
12 oz KC strip
1 plain baked potato

Dinner
Two beef tamales
Two egg rolls

Snacks
Three pieces of salt water taffy
Three dried green beans
A handful of chips with fat-free spinach dip
A handful of chips with low-fat beef chip dip
1.5 peppermint sticks

About 64 oz of water throughout the day

Vacation = less blogging

I'm way behind on blogging and food diaries, but I will allow myself some slack, since this is my vacation week. Granted, I had to work Monday, but the last two days have been glorious days of doing absolutely nothing (except Wednesday's workout!).

In approximately 48 hours, I will be about to start my first 5k. I'm not sure what to expect. My goal is to not walk. However, since this is twice as long as any activity I've done since I started the c25k program, if I have to walk, I will. Wednesday's run was challenging, and the doubts started to creep in. Tomorrow's workout calls for a two-mile jog. I obviously am not doing that tomorrow, instead doing the 5k on Saturday (which happens to be my birthday). I told my brother about my plans, and now, the whole family is coming down to cheer me on. It's not that far of a drive, since we're doing Christmas at my mom's house tomorrow, and that's where everyone (except me) is staying the weekend. Afterward, assuming I'm not in the hospital (and hopefully after a shower) we're going out to eat to celebrate my birthday. I might allow myself a small sliver of cake.

My brother took me out to dinner last night. He was craving Chinese food, and he assured me he could order me something that wouldn't be too bad for my diet. He ordered me the moo goo gai pan, with white rice instead of fried rice. I'm not sure how it was prepared, but there was white chicken and lots of veggies. Hopefully it wasn't fried too extensively. But I ate that up. And a bowl of egg drop soup (about three cups total, I am estimating). It was delicious.

Anyway, here's the food diary from the last three days:

Monday
Breakfast
Smoothie
One cup oatmeal with 12 oz skim milk

Lunch
Two ham and cheese sandwiches

Dinner
Three cups of leftover taco soup

Snack
One fat-free cherry yogurt
One fat-free orange yogurt

128 oz of water throughout the day

Tuesday
Lunch
Two PB&J sandwiches with 16 oz skim milk

Dinner
Three cups of leftover taco soup

Snack
Two spoonfuls of peanut butter

64 oz of water throughout the day

Wednesday
Breakfast
Smoothie

Dinner
One order of moo goo gai pan with about two cups of white rice
3 cups of egg drop soup

About 36 oz of water throughout the day

Doubts about the 5K

Just finished Day 1 of Week 5 of the c25k. It was a rough one. I feel great now, about an hour afterward, but during the run I was having doubts if I could do a complete 5k. Right now, the most I've completed is 1.6 miles -- a little more than half of a 5k.

Apparently my family is coming down to cheer me on as well. Maybe that's why the doubts are creeping in, since there will be an audience. I just hope I can do it.

Anyway, short blog, running late for work. I work today and then am off the rest of the week.

Weekend food diary:
Saturday
Lunch
5 ham and yogurt stuffed miniature jalapenos
1 giant ass pickle

Dinner
Two fresca bean burritos from Taco Bell

128 oz of water throughout the day

Sunday
Lunch
Chicken fajitas from Chili's (three flour tortillas, about two tablespoons of sour cream, and about 1 chicken breast it looked like)

Dinner
Three cups of homemade taco soup. I was just toying around in the kitchen and made it.

About 80 oz of water throughout the day

Here's the recipe for the soup:
32 oz chicken broth
1 can cream of chicken soup (with the one can of water as well)
1 package taco seasoning
2 cans of mexican style Rotel (juice and all)
25 oz canned, pre-cooked chicken (juice and all)
8 oz fat free plain yogurt
1 cup uncooked rice
Bring everything but rice and yogurt to a boil. Add rice and yogurt, reduce heat and stir well. Let simmer until rice is cooked.

I did a rough count of the recipes in the soup and it was about 1,200 calories for the entire pot. Both my wife and I ate a good-sized bowl and there's still plenty left, so it's a pretty low-calorie, healthy meal.

Next time I make it I'm going to add beans. With the beans, I think it'll be perfect.

One month since I started

It's been one month since my journey to try and lose weight started on Nov. 11. If I didn't have so far to go, I think I could feel good about losing 21 pounds. But since I have 79 pounds to go, it's realistically just a drop in the bucket. I have to admit it's a tad frustrating, and I sometimes think it's not worth all the effort I'm putting out. I'm still too fat for the wii fit, for fuck's sake! (Although it's getting closer and closer to the day I can kick its ass for all those times telling me I exceed its weight limit).

I am seriously contemplating accelerating the c25k plan just for one day, so I can run a 5k one week from today, which happens to be my birthday. My very first goal was to run a 5k by my birthday, which I thought was an achievable goal because when I started, my birthday was six weeks away. Well, i was wrong. It was five weeks away. However, next week's schedule on the c25k program calls for running two miles with no walking on the Friday workout. So I am contemplating making my Friday workout a Saturday workout and going for broke and doing the 5k. If I have to walk, so be it. But I really want to do this.

I swear, one of these days I'm going to update my food diary daily just so I don't have a big, three-day's-worth-of-food wall of text at the end of every post

It's getting better

A funny thing is happening this week. My aches and pains are practically non-existent after workouts. It doesn't feel like I need a full day's recovery time. I didn't hurt at all yesterday, and even now, after doing Day 2 of Week 4 of the c25k program, nothing aches.

Today didn't start out so grand, however. After being gung-ho and looking forward to Monday's workout (which went fantastic), I nearly decided to skip today's. I have been doing so good and haven't skipped one yet was my reasoning. I finally did go to workout, obviously, but not until a full hour after I had planned to.

I am so glad I did. I feel great right now. In the past when I used to workout, I always felt great after finishing. I always wished you could bottle that feeling and drink it so you could have that feeling going into the workout, because starting always has been hard for me.

But ever since I started this a month ago, I never felt great after working out. I loathed it going in and loathed it after each workout. And when I realized I didn't have that "feel great" feeling after a workout, I loathed it even more.

But today was different. Thankfully. And here's hoping that feeling carries forward from here on out.

Here's my food diary from Monday and Tuesday:
Monday
Breakfast
Smoothie
Two-egg omelet with cheese, ham and jalapenos, wrapped in a flour tortilla

Tuesday
Breakfast
Smoothie

Two-egg omelet with cheese, ham and jalapenos, wrapped in a flour tortilla

Four bites of stuffing
One bite of cherry parfait

Been a slacker ... but only at blogging!

Closed down the week with a pretty good workout Friday. It was Day 3, Week 3 of the c25k program. I was pleased with how it went, except for the last leg of jogging. My left leg, especially my knee, starting hurting pretty bad. But my recovery time has continued to get better. I was sore most of Friday evening, but yesterday I felt good. And again today.

And for the first time, I think I'm actually looking forward to tomorrow's workout.

I also weighed Friday. I lost another five pounds. I totally was not expecting that. I didn't think I'd lose any, to be honest. I was ready to be frustrated. That brings the total to 19 pounds.

Got a lot of catching up on my food diary. I CANNOT fall this far behind again.

Catching up

I haven't blogged in about three days and that's not good. I mostly am blogging to keep a food diary every day so I have somewhere to write down what I eat on a daily basis.

Monday's workout was decent, as was today's. The lower half of my body still isn't cooperating with my brain, however. I think my "jogging" is slower than my walking. My brain keeps telling my legs to move faster, but my legs just can't do it. There was a glimmer of hope on my first jog, as that is the best I've felt in awhile. But by the time the second jog rolled around, my legs were back on strike.

I also found four pennies in the parking lot, all head's up, after my workout today. So I got that going for me, which is nice.

Food diary:
Monday
Breakfast
Smoothie
Two eggs, jalapenos, cheese wrapped in a flour tortilla

Lunch
Two PB&J sandwiches

Dinner
Two ham and cheese sandwiches

Snack
One giant-ass dill pickle

128 oz  of water throughout the day

Tuesday
Breakfast
Smoothie

Two eggs, jalapenos, cheese wrapped in a flour tortilla

Lunch
Two PB&J sandwiches

Dinner
Two cups of potato soup (kind of fattening; 610 calories and more than 20 grams of fat, I believe. But it was a week expired; my wife bought it seven weeks ago. It has been sitting in the fridge ever since, and I hate for food to go expired)

Snack
One low-fat blueberry yogurt

128 oz of water throughout the day
